Physical Therapy

is categorized in major types of therapies based on the organs/parts of body which benefit from the treatment. The different types of Physiotherapy treatments are as follows:

Musculoskeletal Physical Therapy

This treatment is primarily used for treatment of pain in the joints, tissues etc. A variety of treatments like exercises, manual therapies and treatment using electro-physical agents like cryotherapy, heat therapy and many more are used to treat pain in the parts of the body as discussed before. It is important that a Physical Therapy will be highly ineffective if the problem is not diagnosed properly.

Cardiopulmonary Physical Therapy

Many doctors treat complex internal issues like asthma, bronchitis and acute respiratory conditions. Since most of the ailments affect organs like the chest, throat, cysts, any physical modality used in treating these ailments will be highly ineffective in treating these ailments.

Neurological Physical Therapy

This is possibly one of the complex forms of Physical Therapy. Neurological Physical Therapy, if done properly ensures that the motor functions and the nerve cells work properly. This is ensured by the fact that Neurological Physical Therapy reduces the motor defects, which impair the working of the nerve cells.

When a massage is done properly, externally on a human body, it ensures that pain is reduced on different parts of the body. Massage like soft tissue massage will help relieve a soft tissue injury that a person sustained. Most massages are provided to people intending that the customers gain mental benefit from the massage. The medical reason behind this thought process is the fact that when done properly, the massage relieves a person of a lot of tension. It easies the muscles and nerves in a human body, thus ensuring that the circulatory system is in proper working shape.

The critical aspect of physical therapy massage is that it should never be done on a human body stand-alone and must be based on sound medical diagnosis of the ailment. For example, if a person is suffering from a pain in his wrists, it should be diagnosed properly with the help of X Ray and other Pathology reports, as well as the physical therapy massages must be recommended by the doctor. Not doing this may result in serious consequences for the person who wishes to have the massage done on him.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy is an allied health profession. This term is used to refer to the wide range of professional groups that work in mainstream health care. Other examples of allied health professionals include physiotherapists, radiographers, speech and language therapists, and podiatrists. Occupational therapists are required to train at degree level and register with the Health Profession Council, which was set up by the government to ensure the safety of the public and continuing professional development of its members.

Occupational therapists are concerned with human occupation in its widest sense. They believe that people have an intrinsic drive to be active and express themselves via occupations and activities. Occupational therapists understand that occupations contribute to a person's sense of identity and place in society. Take a moment to have a think about all the roles and occupations that make up your life, you may be a parent, or partner, you may be studying at college or working your way up the career ladder, you may be into exercising and keeping fit or you may be leading a hippy lifestyle!

Whatever, your life choices, it is likely that these roles and occupations give your life direction. For example, think about the range of activities that you do in any week, you will find that most of what you do, is related to your life roles and choice of occupations. This is because we do what is meaningful to us and what is necessary (ironing is likely to fall into the latter category!).

It is activity that keeps the mind and body functioning. Through what you do, you learn new skills and how to adapt, get to interact with other people and your environment, meet human needs and develop who you are. Activities are the things we do to work towards our goals. They are the framework of everyday life.

It is understood that if your routines are disrupted or you are deprived of occupation because of illness, stress or other problems your health and well-being will suffer. Occupational therapists help people whose usual and important routines are disrupted because of illness, stress or social problems. Their aim is to enable people to achieve as much as they can for themselves, so they get the most out of life. Occupational therapists work on any occupational difficulties and in this way are experienced life coaches. When people cannot do things which are important to them - such as getting dressed, giving a presentation at work, having a shower, working, socializing, feeling confident to go out into the community or undertaking a favorite hobby - an occupational therapist can help them in many ways, based on each individual person's needs and lifestyle.

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is a type of complementary and alternative medicine that uses plant oils that give off strong pleasant aromas (smells) to promote relaxation, a sense of well-being, and healing

Researchers are reporting that two of the most commonly used scents in aromatherapy do nothing to heal wounds, relieve pain or enhance immune status, although one did briefly improve mood. In fact, in some cases, distilled water showed more of a salutary effect, the study found.

Studies show that a lot of people only visit the doctor when there is pain felt in the body. This is despite the fact that patients are advised to see a doctor every 6 months or annually so that problems can be detected and treated during the early stages.

Since the cost of healthcare is very expensive, many have decided to take a holistic approach in this matter. The objective is to prevent sicknesses before it happens but should this problem arise, the holistic approach should also be able to counter it. A good example of this is aromatherapy.

Aromatherapy is the practice of using essential oils that come from various herbs and plants to get relief. Luckily, you don't have to go to school to learn it because you can buy these products in stores, follow the instructions that come with it and use this at home.

These are always packaged in small bottles. Opening and inhaling it can do the trick but if you want something stronger, this can be achieved by putting this over a burner so the scent fills up the entire room. The oil can also be rubbed on the body if this is used to soothe the tired muscles. Those that want to get rid of toxins can lie in a tub that has bath salts. This will dissolve when this gets into contact with the water.

The reason why aromatherapy is considered to be an example of holistic healthcare is the fact that it can cure various problems without the use of conventional medicine. Studies have proven that it can do more than just relieve stress but also help those suffering from anxiety attacks, digestive problems and menopause or menstrual pains for women.

But before you decide to try out aromatherapy, you should first check with your physician. You have to be aware that it cannot cure major illnesses and this can only be used to relieve minor pains. You can find for a specialist by looking through the phone directory or going online. When you have met the individual, it is best to reveal first your current medical and physical condition. Those who are pregnant or are nursing should not try it yet because the various scents may be harmful to the infant.
